our 4th of july

After seven years of marriage, Dave and I have experienced quite a few fun 4th of July celebrations. But this year we came to the conclusion that we really love spending the 4th here in Provo.

Dad joined us for the parade after he ran (and placed 3rd in his division) the Freedom Run 5K.

Some of the Wihongi kids observing the parade.

I love seeing war veterans in parades. I always feel so proud of them—even though I don't know who they are.

One of our highlights of the parade is seeing the missionaries. I love the cheers they get.

This car was so funky. I felt sorry for the boring Toyotas that followed it.

Back at the house, we hung out and had a bbq. The kids were entertained with a simple running game that involved a bed sheet.

Then we headed over to Rock Canyon park to watch the fireworks from Stadium of Fire.
This was one of our views,

and this was another.

The kids all rolled down the huge hill about a 782 times,

which makes you pretty dizzy.

The big boys played some soccer,

and Joey preferred playing with them instead of the little kids.

Gwen busied herself by shoving popcorn into her mouth,

but remembered to show me her empty mouth before running off to play.

The fly-by

It was a great 4th and I'm so proud to be an American.

Amen to that--we've been a bunch of places for the 4th of July and there's not a better place to celebrate it than Provo. Okay, Washington DC gives it some strong competition because of the symbolism, I guess, but we'd still rather be with family in Provo.

i'm a convert to the 4th in Provo. although, the parade could use a little sprucing(seriously, how does it NOT have BYU's marching band in it!?). and by that, i don't mean by using a chubby captain america or a crazy radio disney chic.
