Two good reasons for having children

  1. Inez woke up this morning yelling, "No! No! I want ice cream!" I went into her room and asked her what was wrong. She said that she was with her uncle Jon at a fair and that he wouldn't let her have any pink ice cream. I asked her why he didn't want her to have ice cream, and she said "I don't know. He was dressed up like a penguin."

  2. This afternoon, Inez informed Holly and I that, before we could enter her room, we had to solve a riddle. When we asked her to tell us the riddle, she said, "Once upon a time, there was a fairy and a hippo. You figure out the rest."

an evening of mixed emotions

Tonight our beloved prophet, President Gordon B. Hinckley passed away.

He has been our prophet since I was twenty, or maybe nineteen but I'm too tired to do the math. Some years ago after reading his biography Go Forward With Faith, I gained such an appreciation for him, his sacrifices, his willingness to serve and for his a lifetime of what seemed like preparation for his service as our Prophet. What an amazing man. I'm so grateful to him for his selfless service, his love for members of our church and his optimism. I remember going to a session of General Conference in October 2001, weeks after 9/11. I remember feeling scared because he mentioned at the end of the session that he had just been handed a note that a U.S. missile attack was underway. But then he ended saying this:

"Let us be prayerful. Let us pray for righteousness. Let us pray for the forces of good. Let us reach out to help men and women of goodwill, whatever their religious persuasion and wherever they live. Let us stand firm against evil, both at home and abroad. Let us live worthy of the blessings of heaven, reforming our lives where necessary and looking to Him, the Father of us all. He has said, “Be still, and know that I am God” (Ps. 46:10). Are these perilous times? They are. But there is no need to fear. We can have peace in our hearts and peace in our homes. We can be an influence for good in this world, every one of us."

We will miss our dear prophet, but are happy that he had such a long and full life. Most of all, we are happy that he is reunited with his loved ones—especially his dear, sweet wife. As one of my favorite hymns sings, "God be with you til we meet again."

get me out of this snow!

It is yet another snowy day. And while it is beautiful and I'm glad we are inside instead of driving in it, I get pretty stir crazy. Plus this weather just makes me want to bake goodies and dip buttery toast into some Stephen's hot chocolate (because sugar free Swiss Miss just doesn't cut it). I need a break. Right about now I'd take a week in Southern California at Disneyland and the Grand Californian Hotel. I'm sure that would be four-too-many days for Dave, but I bet he'd rather be there for a week than here at work and in the snow. Am I right Dave?

One good thing about this snow is that I have Erin (our nature enthusiast) who is going to take us cross country skiing tonight under the full moon. I know that sounds like we are going on a romantic date. Well it is—a double date (she with her husband and me with mine. Am I right Dave?)

CTL

Inez's twenty-something Primary teachers spoke in church today and one of them opened with a classic story about our little troublemaker. As he was telling it, I remembered that I'd meant to post this story months ago—back when they originally told it to us. Anyway, here it is—aged a few months to comedic perfection.

Teacher: Is it important to choose the right?

Class: Yes!

Teacher: That's right. It's very important to choose the right. What happens if we don't choose the right?

Inez: We choose the left.

delegating inspiration

Dave and I have to talk in church next Sunday. We've been given the topic of "whatever we want."

Any suggestions?

catching up

So whilst we are camera-less I figured I could catch up on a few posts that never made it to our darling little blog. Although as I review our iPhoto Album I am getting very verklempt while also realizing how difficult life is without a camera (I always think of pioneers when I say or think of things like that, but that's another post and I assign it to Dave).

Anyway, I just may put Christmas dresses and jammies back on the girls so that I can try and recreate some memories. Not only did we have a Christmas sans camera, but I was also busy doing a million loads of laundry due to lots of puke and leaky, runny, dirty diapers that were a large part our Christmas season this year (yet another excuse that I won't give as to why I haven't been blogging). So even if we had a camera for Christmas, there wasn't a lot to take pictures of. Well, not pictures that anyone would want to see.

In the meantime, here's a fond remembrance from last summer (that's for you Butlers because you just may be onto something with your theory about Winter making me tired).

Stay tuned for posts from the past that will be posted in the future for your present enjoyment.

alright already

So we haven't posted in a month. There are A LOT of excuses that I could give but I am just too tired. In fact that's probably my #1 excuse as to why I have not been blogging. T-I-R-E-D.

Right now it is 10:09pm and Inez is still awake! (That is an exclamation point of frustration.) The movie Hot Rod is playing on our tv because the dvd is due tomorrow. It is SO stupid and needs to be turned off RIGHT NOW but I'm too tired. Actually the more it plays the lamer it gets, so I think I'll be able to muster up enough energy to change it to Project Runway. What I really should do though is go to SLEEP.

Did I mention how very tired I have been lately? Just this morning I feel asleep on the couch and Gwen hurt her eye and it has been puffy all day. I think I am up for mother of the year. But honestly, I am kind of freaking out about how tired I have been lately. I have a doctor's appointment in a few weeks (the earliest they could get me in) and I am determined to get some answers other than, lack of sleep, sugar, no excercise, etc. I know those are contributing factors, but I am more than just tired from too much sugar. Especially if the only sugar I have had in a day were a few (handfuls of) chocolate chips.

If you have gotten this far in this post then congratulations! Also, two things. One: you are probably so glad that "Buns of Steel" is not the first thing you see here (I know I am). Two: Since our camera is STILL broken I apologize for the terrible grainy-ness of this picture from my cell phone. But I ask you, how could I possibly resist taking her picture when she does stuff like this?

Okay, I have to go. It's 10:45 and Project Runway is on. But I'm going to bed right after it's over.

I promise.
